Americans mustn't make the mistake of thinking this is restricted to the US or to evangelical churches. My church here in France just imploded when the pastor's salary was suddenly revealed after he berated the congregation for not being generous enough in their giving. What appears to be happening is that we are muddling what we do for the church with what we do for God and ruthless people exploit this.
