Having spent many years growing food, I have come to the conclusion that it is no all that viable from an economic point of view. I can generally buy fresh produce at the many local markets for less than I can produce it, certainly at times when farmers have a glut and the prices fall. Since that conclusion, I now focus on buying cheap and preserving and I think that works better than home farming.
