I have a suspicion that tobacco companies moved their advertising budget to films on Netflix and the like. It is rare to see scenes where someone is not smoking even though the act brings nothing to the storyline. Technically it might constitute subliminal advertising which I assume doesn't fall under the advertising ban that so many countries have imposed.
