The environment is my passion and I have been writing about it for years. I too was shocked when the Van Gogh incident took place and have had several conversations with activists since. The general feeling is that they needed to shine a brighter light on this subject which they certainly have done, and they hasten to point out that the artworks were never damaged.

I sympathize with their objectives but feel that the targeting is misguided. There are plenty of targets that would attract equal attention without driving art lovers to resist the cause. Their over-exuberance has also divided the environmental movement and that plays right into the hands of the big oil companies.
