Underpants and Equality

The Great Underwear Divide

Modern society and political correctness demand that we constantly eliminate any differences between the sexes. We must, we are constantly being reminded, seek to find common ground and disregard areas where, for one reason or another, we are simply not the same.

There is, in my opinion, one area of variance which will always exist. I live in a country where woman take their undergarments extremely seriously. It is not uncommon for a French woman to spend hundreds of euros on what amounts to little more than an ounce or two of lace that will be seen by only a very particular person.

Long may that situation continue.

Men on the other hand, and I suspect this may be a worldwide affliction, have a slightly different approach to undergarments. We offer them our undying loyalty. A man might be a treacherous philanderer of the lowest sort, a liar, and a cheat, but he will still offer eternal allegiance to his underpants. It doesn’t matter if there is little more than the chassis still intact and the garment itself has more holes than a Swiss cheese, we aren’t going to throw those babies away.

We might desert our wives, shoot our dog or sell our favorite car, but our underpants are there till death do us part.
